Youth Activities Consultation - Fall 2020

At the September 14th Council meeting the Sooke Region Communities Health Network (SRCHN) development and operation of an Elders Complex with youth programming on the Northeast quadrant of Lot A was approved. The complex will include up to 76 affordable housing rental units for individuals 55 plus and an elder’s centre on the ground floor for socializing, recreation, and enrichment. On behalf of the District of Sooke, SRCHN is currently undertaking a comprehensive youth consultation to determine what programming would meet the needs of our youth and elders.

SRCHN has completed the first stage feasibility consultation with youth service providers in Sooke. Thank you to all youth service providers in Sooke who participated.

For the second stage of research, we will consult youth, through surveys and interviews, their wishes for the youth space, gaps in services, mentorship, and their role in the community.

In order to help us hear the voices of youth in Sooke, we are asking for your help in the second stage of our research. We are looking to speak with youth age 11-19.

  1. Are you able to help facilitate youth filling out a short online survey? We would like to reach as many youth in Sooke as possible.

  2. Are you able to organize a live (in-person or online) group consultation session with the youth that you work with?

We are adhering to COVID-19 guidelines and safety precautions. If you and your group are comfortable, we would like to facilitate an in-person session. If your group needs, we can meet outdoors, or via zoom, or by phone.

SRCHN's youth activities consultation facilitator, Dan Mc Neill, will be happy to discuss the questions and topics before the surveys/group work. All surveys and information gathered will be anonymous.

For consultations taking place at Seaparc, please note the following COVID policy:

Here are the questions you will be asked prior to attending group sessions:

Have you been experiencing fever, difficulty breathing or cold/flu like symptoms? Yes/No

Have you traveled outside of Canada in the last 14 days? Yes/No

Have you had close contact with someone with a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the last 14 days? Yes/No

If you answer “Yes” to any questions, please do not attend the SEAPARC facility or Youth Focus Group.

As well, here are the general guidelines that need to be followed while at Seaparc:
