SRCHN GOVERNANCE

The Board has fiduciary responsibility, dealing with the constitution, by-laws, financial issues and budgeting, human resources and providing the general direction the organization should take. The Board normally meets monthly.

Mary Dunn (Vice-President) has spent her career working in the community as a nurse and manager of the medical and counselling services in a CHC in Ottawa for 12 years, and then for 17 years as a Public Health Nurse in the Sooke Region. 


Nicky Logins has been a resident of the Sooke Region since 1979. Nicky is passionate about improving wellness in our communities. To indulge this passion, she has been an active advocate and participant in several local development initiatives. Nicky has recently retired from 


15 years as Executive Director at Sooke Family Resource Society where she had the privilege of developing non-profit programs with lasting positive impact for local families. She has served on several local boards, and continues in this role currently with SRCHN, the Sooke Food Bank and the Sooke Martial Arts Association. 

Steve Anderson grew up in Sooke and has worked as residential home painter for the past 34 years. Steve’s community involvement includes volunteering at local community events, being on the board of Sooke Harbour Player for 15 years, including 5 years as its president. 

He has also worked at the local Community School (EMCS) for the last 6 years as the theater co-ordinator of the Sooke community theatre, as well as being a Director-at-Large with the EMCS Board. 

Rose Dumont is a dedicated and passionate community leader born and raised in Sooke. Rose and her husband are co-owners of a thriving local business. Her extensive board experience includes serving as the chair of two prominent organizations, where her leadership and commitment have made significant impacts. Rose's dedication to her Indigenous home community is evident in her lifelong efforts to support and uplift its members. Her volunteer work on several Sooke committees showcases her unwavering commitment to community service and development. With a deep-rooted connection to her heritage and a proven track record of community involvement, Rose Dumont continues to be a driving force for positive change and growth in T’Souke. 


Kaye Kennish is originally from England and spent many years in South Africa where she was a high school and special education teacher. Since arriving in Canada in 1995 she has worked in non-profit agencies that provide social services, as Director of Human Resources and as Executive Director. Kaye retired as Executive Director of the James Bay Community Project in January 2025, and currently volunteers for Victoria Literacy Connection and on the Community Advisory Group of the Victoria Primary Care Network. Kaye lives in East Sooke and is mother to 

two daughters and three wonderful grandchildren and is grateful for a life full of love and good fortune. 

Lindsay Meissner  has worked with volunteers for much of her career, including past roles at the Prince George Native Friendship Centre and the YMCA. She is currently supporting volunteers at Island Health in long-term care, public health, and children’s health sites on the South Island. Lindsay holds a master’s degree in interdisciplinary studies, with a focus on sustainable community development. Previously, she has served on the board of the Compassionate Eye Foundation. She is passionate about community building, volunteerism, social justice, and sustainability. She loves living in Sooke with her partner, Aaraksh, their 1-year-old daughter, and their terribly silly Boston Terrier. She looks forward to serving her community by joining SRCHN.

Karen Sharlow was born, raised and educated in British Columbia. Karen graduated from Simon Fraser University (BA - commerce and economics, 1979) and the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law (LLB, 1981). Karen practiced tax law in Vancouver until 1999, when she was 

appointed to the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. Karen’s judicial work focused on disputes involving the application and enforcement of federal laws including, for example, federal tax, international trade, intellectual property, and indigenous matters. Karen retired as a judge in 2014 and returned to the practice of tax law until 2021, when she retired and moved to Sooke. In matters of corporate governance, most of Karen’s experience comes from her work as a lawyer advising managers of various enterprises. Karen served briefly on the board of the Sooke Community Investment Cooperative (owner of the Café Vosino).

Seeking New Board Members and Advisors!


Sooke Region Communities Health Network is working on two larger projects: Sooke Gathering Place, a seniors’ drop-in centre, under the Elders Complex; and the Sooke Region Community Health Centre to open in 2025.


We are looking for people who are passionate about Sooke Region and have previous experience as a Board member or experience in overseeing development projects, finance and accounting backgrounds.
